The Girl Boss Edition

Hey Beauties!

The term, “Girl Boss” has been used so much the past few years and you know what, I AM LOVING IT! So what does it mean to be a Girl Boss? Are there qualifications? Who are the Girl Bosses to look up to? Am I a Girl Boss? How do I become a Girl Boss? Some of these questions may be swirling through your mind. By no means am I an expert to quantify and qualify anyone to be Girl Boss but I will say being raised by entrepreneurs and being an entrepreneur myself for the past 7 years I may know a thing or too about being a GIRL BOSS! Oh yeah, baby!

In working as a makeup artist most of my clients are the ultimate Girl Bosses, Lawyers, CEO’s, Momma’s, Politicians, Pastors, Creative Entrepreneurs, Singers, Dancers, Actors and so many more! Today I wanted to showcase a few of my clients whom have been an absolute dream to work for because they truly are changing the world!

First up is Sofia Boyer of Magnolia Creative Studio, her work is incredibly beautiful for it being of the tech kind. 😉 She helps women business owners with all her magical website and brand building skills. She offers some amazing services, go check her out!

Being a Girl Boss is more of a state of mind than a state of status. We are ALL Girl Bosses is our own right and walk with your head held high no mater what you do. Now, I’ve showed you a few Girl Bosses I know personally but I wanted to share some I look up to in the beauty industry as well, whom I haven’t met yet (speaking that in faith). They work so hard and are crazy talented at what they do!

First up is Lisa Eldridge, one of the most respected and experienced makeup artists in the world. She has a vast knowledge of makeup history which I find super fascinating! She has an incredible book called “Face Paint: The Story of Makeup” Go check it out, her knowledge and skills are outta this world! She also just launched a fabulous jewelry line that is absolutely stunning!

Lastly is the ultimate Girl Boss, who coined the phrase for our current generation and that’s  Sofia Amoruso, the author of Girl Boss, Founder and former CEO of Nasty Gal and current founder and CEO of Girlboss Media. She is the authority on all things vintage and women in business. Netflix even did a hilarious series about her life and the start up of her multi million dollar franchise! A favorite quote of hers is, “A #GIRLBOSS is in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it.”

I hope you feel encouraged to follow your dreams and don’t give up! Let’s be the women who help straighten each others crowns. Now, go on and turn your passion into profit like I did with my makeup and skincare business. You can do it!

Salena’s Sydonie Wedding

Hello Beauties!

The 2018 Spring/Summer wedding season has officially wrapped and WOW I had some pretty incredible weddings. I wanted to share a favorite of mine, beautiful Salena’s wedding at Sydonie Mansion. Bridal season has it’s joys and watching a bride prepare to see her forever love for that first look down the aisle is my absolute favorite!

Salena had such a peace about her despite all the craziness that can happen on a wedding day. She kept her eye the prize and looked stunning while doing so. Selena had a career as a News reporter so her poise is top notch! Her style choice was also incredible. She choose a stunning Martina Liana gown from The Collection Bridal that literally fit her PERFECT!

She was sporting a beautiful tan, so I went with a glowing bronze look on her. I started with her eyes and did a bronze smokey eye with super fluffy lashes. She has beautiful brown eyes so it really made her eyes pop! Then I did some Temptu Airbrush makeup that gave her  that glow from within look. I added a little more glow on the high points of her face, a little color on the cheeks and defined her brows. I finished with the lips, I choose a glossy color to bring out her natural lip color. Her look was fresh, glowing and effortless.

I’m so excited for you to see these stunning photos by the amazing Hannah Glogower. The incredible Sydonie Mansion was such a magical venue. It was my first time there. It’s tucked away in Mount Dora, FL and it sure is a hidden gem! You’ll see in the following photos all the beauty! The hairstylist, the amazing Sarah Vaughn and I knocked out 16 services! Woo hoo! It was a busy and amazing day. I was honored and so delighted to be apart of Selena’s day and I wish her and her new hubby all the best!

5 Reasons to Upgrade to Airbrush Makeup for Your Wedding Day.

5 Reasons to Upgrade to Airbrush Makeup for Your Wedding Day:
  1. Texture. It feels like second skin and is perfect for those brides who don’t want to feel they have makeup on. But good news it looks amazing! Makes you camera ready in an instant!
  2. Long wear. It’s water resistant and transfer resistant. The technology in most airbrush makeup formulas makes it so it adheres like skin to the face. When used with proper primers, moisturizers and setting powder it truly it’s unstoppable! So much so I put Temptu’s perfect canvas hydra lock formula to the test at a recent shoot where the model went underwater. And not just a dip like full on swimming! Her face stayed perfect! I’d say you want that in your wedding day!
  3. HD camera approved. I briefly mentioned this is number 1 but I’ll go into more detail. Using an HD makeup formula is so important in today’s use of HD camera and video. You want a smooth finishing and every pore covered for that big day and airbrush makeup is your solution! The way in which the foundation is blown through the gun creates a finishing that looks perfect on camera!
  4. Skill. Airbrush makeup application takes a certain level of skill. When hiring a professional makeup artist, make sure they have a wide range of skills. Learning and mastering airbrush application is such a great skill to have and brings more options to the table for your best day ever!!!! Most makeup artist that offer this service have a few years under their belt and you can trust them with all your makeup need so the day of your wedding.
  5. Investment. Those makeup artist’s who spend money on a good airbrush system see the value in giving you the best of the best! A good airbrush system can cost in upwards of $500. We truly want you to have the best for your best day ever! Investing in our makeup kit is investing in you! An artist who carries good quality products is the artist you want to hire. Professional products require professional skills.
Airbrush makeup may be a bit more expensive than your average makeup application but let me tell you its worth every penny. I will say there is only one downfall to airbrush and depending on the formula it is not well suited for some mature skin types. I will say though the new Temptu Hydra Lock formula is perfect for mature skin and all the above. It’s my new secret weapon! So for all my fellow artists reading this, the sky is the limit with the Hydra Lock Formula!
I hope this helps in your makeup decision for your big day! Much luck to you!
Ps. In no way am I sponsored by Temptu or any airbrush makeup company. I truly believe in these products and spend my hard earned makeup money on them. I know I can trust them to perform to the quality I want them to and trust them to make my client look their absolute best!

What We’re Worth.

Today I want to talk about something I’m very passionate about. It is a hard topic to share but I had to get it out there, so here it goes… This topic seems to be one a lot of beauty, wedding and event professionals have a hard time discussing… the topic is paying a Makeup Artist what we’re worth. Now this goes for makeup artists who are seasoned and have been working for 5 or more years as a freelancer and understand how to do every eye shape, face shape and skin color they could possibly come in contact with on a job. To be honest… if you can’t do that, you shouldn’t be charging money for your services.

So I know at the end of the day makeup services are a luxury, meaning it is a “want” not a “need”. Those who are fortunate to be able to afford professional hair and makeup services I’m talking to you. First off let me say, thank you for wanting to hire us, you help keep food on a single mom’s table, an art student in school and an aspiring entrepreneur in business. But can we have real talk for just a min? Ok, let’s put on our big girl panties. It’s time to start paying us what we’re worth. I’m talking to you fellow wedding vendor or beauty industry professional. I’m talking to you bride and aspiring model. Do your research. If your looking to hire a $$ a face makeup artist, check their business out! Are they insured? Licensed? Are they operating legally? Do they have knowledge of sanitation and product quality? Do they offer airbrush and multiple service options? So many factors go into a makeup artists pricing. There is so much more to what we do than just paint faces. We do so many things leading up to a brides wedding or clients event day, just to name a few….. We create a bridal schedule, we create contracts and hire lawyers, we are constantly cleaning and making sure our kit is up to par and buying the best professional quality makeup products, we are organizing, calling, booking, emailing and networking our butts off! We take continuing education classes and look for the best rates on liability and property insurance. We network with other artists to stay relevant and keep our skill level excellent. If I can be as frank to say, the artists you want to hire are in the $$$ range not the $$ range, you truly do get what you pay for and your face is a precious thing, treat it right and hire someone who can make the most important day, your wedding or event day, truly the best ever!

To those artists charging $$ a face, why? You are worth more than that. You are hurting the industry as a whole and teaching clients to not pay what we’re truly worth. Let’s all step up! If your charging that because you need more practice, go practice but don’t charge a client that’d be willing to pay $$$ to just get work for “experience” go do a bunch of styled shoots, work on family and friends to get your name out there, network, hustle! You’re not alone, we all started from the bottom and made our way. I, by no means am at my ideal price and ideal client yet. It takes time, patience and lots of practice! My goal is to have a long term mindset and do today what will set me up for tomorrow. I’m in this for the long haul not to just make a quick buck. I want every man or women that sits in my chair to have an experience they will never forget!

Brides and those seeking professional makeup services… Think twice about who, what and why you hire that person. Do your research and make sure you are truly getting what you want and what you pay for. Your wedding day is the day you’ll be looking back on for years and years to come. So make sure you truly hire a professional, we have your back and won’t let you down!

JULIANNA

Hello Beauties!

I just realized I never shared this amazing fashion shoot with the beautiful JULIANNA. The final product sure did blow me away, thanks to Sufia Huq Photo. Months of planning and collaboration went into this day. Picking out color palettes, locations, outfits. But most importantly finding the perfect model. Honestly once we started shooting and the lighting, the colors, the style, Julianna, it literally all collided in one moment and my breath was taken away. Also can I just say, this was Julianna’s first shoot modeling and WOW she killed it! There is something super intense about the creative process. An intensity that is filled with hope yet fear. Hope that everything you had in your mind comes fourth and then fear that it may just totally flop! Well this was a creative release that was well worth the pressure!

For this makeup look I wanted Julianna’s skin to shine! Every curve of her face to have definition and glow. My product of choice was, Temptu, silicon base airbrush makeup. I used all airbrush, foundation, blush, highlight, contour and eye shadow. In some of the last photos I added some glitter lips, seriously, SO FUN! I switched up her lip color three times. See if you can spot it. 😉 I also styled her hair, which those that know me, I do NOT do hair. But for this I wanted a super simple look with all focus on her face. I went with a middle part slicked back low pony tail and it totally completed her look more than I realized once we got on location to shoot, it fit perfect!

The vintage fur coat was actually my nana’s whom my mom now owns and lent us, truly the shoot wouldn’t have been the same without it! Fur coat for the win! I love this shoot because it can be used for spring/summer and fall/winter fashion. The crushed velvet gold dress perfect for spring and so versatile! And can we just talk about the red velvet block heels, all sorts of YES! I wish I bought a pair in my size!

In the middle of shooting we noticed a car that fit perfectly into our color palette and well the guy was kind enough to let us shoot with its awesome paint job, lifted spinners and all. Oh Orlando, I love you. I hope you enjoyed my breakdown of this shoot, now go enjoy some photos… Let me know what you think.
