Mirror, Mirror.


Hey Beauties,

I’ve had on my heart to share the meaning behind my mission for, ” Beauty from the inside, out.” I truly believe that when situations squeeze us we learn really quickly whats inside us. Are we ruled by our emotions? Are we easily swayed? Do we give into comparison?

Identity is key when we go to apply our makeup and get ready for the day. Do you do it to hide away? To become someone else? Don’t succumb to the pressures of the world to become someone else, be YOU! The world doesn’t need another copy it needs original YOU!

From the Tale, Snow White, we’ve all read as kids, The Evil Queen said, ” Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? The magic mirror responded, ” You, My Queen, are so fair true. But the young Queen is a thousand times fairer than you.”

The Evil Queen was obsessed with comparison and maintaining her vanity to the point she exiled all the “undesirables” to outside of town. It literally drove her mad. Could you imagine if the Evil Queen believed in herself enough to have the confidence to embrace her flaws and give herself permission to be original. Now, that would have been a whole different tale to tell.

You can quickly find yourself in a spiral of comparison in this day and age of social media. Someone is always doing it better. Thats the way it will always be. If we keep outside focus on what should be an inside job we find ourselves in the never ending spiral. But if you keep focused on the path in front of you and don’t look to the right or to the left, you’ll be mind blown by what you’re capable!

When you look into the mirror next, speak life to yourself, love your flaws, embrace your differences, that’s what makes you, YOU. The world needs you to be YOU, not someone else! One of my favorite books, I’m reading for the second time ( if you know me, that never happens ) is called Without Rival by Lisa Bevere. She talks about embracing your identity and purpose in an age of confusion and comparison. Pretty much the best book ever for this topic, am I right?!

I hope you began to love yourself, embrace your truths and live from the inside, out. The world needs your truth, your self conviction and your beauty! Speak life to your passions and I hope that everywhere you go you leave a smile behind with those your encounter. The amazing Maya Angelou said, ” I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. “

What We’re Worth.


Today I want to talk about something I’m very passionate about. It is a hard topic to share but I had to get it out there, so here it goes… This topic seems to be one a lot of beauty, wedding and event professionals have a hard time discussing… the topic is paying a Makeup Artist what we’re worth. Now this goes for makeup artists who are seasoned and have been working for 5 or more years as a freelancer and understand how to do every eye shape, face shape and skin color they could possibly come in contact with on a job. To be honest… if you can’t do that, you shouldn’t be charging money for your services.

So I know at the end of the day makeup services are a luxury, meaning it is a “want” not a “need”. Those who are fortunate to be able to afford professional hair and makeup services I’m talking to you. First off let me say, thank you for wanting to hire us, you help keep food on a single mom’s table, an art student in school and an aspiring entrepreneur in business. But can we have real talk for just a min? Ok, let’s put on our big girl panties. It’s time to start paying us what we’re worth. I’m talking to you fellow wedding vendor or beauty industry professional. I’m talking to you bride and aspiring model. Do your research. If your looking to hire a $$ a face makeup artist, check their business out! Are they insured? Licensed? Are they operating legally? Do they have knowledge of sanitation and product quality? Do they offer airbrush and multiple service options? So many factors go into a makeup artists pricing. There is so much more to what we do than just paint faces. We do so many things leading up to a brides wedding or clients event day, just to name a few….. We create a bridal schedule, we create contracts and hire lawyers, we are constantly cleaning and making sure our kit is up to par and buying the best professional quality makeup products, we are organizing, calling, booking, emailing and networking our butts off! We take continuing education classes and look for the best rates on liability and property insurance. We network with other artists to stay relevant and keep our skill level excellent. If I can be as frank to say, the artists you want to hire are in the $$$ range not the $$ range, you truly do get what you pay for and your face is a precious thing, treat it right and hire someone who can make the most important day, your wedding or event day, truly the best ever!

To those artists charging $$ a face, why? You are worth more than that. You are hurting the industry as a whole and teaching clients to not pay what we’re truly worth. Let’s all step up! If your charging that because you need more practice, go practice but don’t charge a client that’d be willing to pay $$$ to just get work for “experience” go do a bunch of styled shoots, work on family and friends to get your name out there, network, hustle! You’re not alone, we all started from the bottom and made our way. I, by no means am at my ideal price and ideal client yet. It takes time, patience and lots of practice! My goal is to have a long term mindset and do today what will set me up for tomorrow. I’m in this for the long haul not to just make a quick buck. I want every man or women that sits in my chair to have an experience they will never forget!

Brides and those seeking professional makeup services… Think twice about who, what and why you hire that person. Do your research and make sure you are truly getting what you want and what you pay for. Your wedding day is the day you’ll be looking back on for years and years to come. So make sure you truly hire a professional, we have your back and won’t let you down!

Admire Someone Else’s Beauty Without Questioning Your Own


Sometimes that’s easier said then done, am I right? But I truly believe you can walk this out everyday when you find your true identity. When you know your place in the world, you don’t feel pressure to compare or question yourself. You walk out life in confidence instead of looking all around to find your answers. When you find inner peace, it seeps out in all you do!

Well how do I find inner peace? Great question! My experience in this has been life changing and is an experience that has marked me forever! And it’s one word, JESUS. He is the prince of peace. He died to know you! I’ll talk more about my experience with Jesus in upcoming blogs. 🙂 He sure did save me from myself!

Beauty is more than just the appearance of how things look, it’s deeper! Beauty is all around us, all the time! For me, I feel like sometimes I get so centered on my needs and my wants I forget to enjoy the little things and find the beauty within. My husband is so good at living in the moment and he’s taught me so much about learning to enjoy life so much more! I naturally am future focused and looking for a plan of action in my day to day. It’s easy to focus on all that’s wrong and want to change it to the way we think things should be or how the world tell us it should be. I believe that beauty is finding joy in what makes you happy. Beauty is what we define it to be. For me beauty is in the imperfections.

As a makeup artist I’m trained to fix flaws. In training we literally are taught to make everyone’s face the perfect oval, they say that’s the ideal face shape. Well who’s they I say? How can they categorize the billions of people on the planet to one ideal face shape!? I say, no way! Embrace our crooked noses and small foreheads. Our blemishes and wide set eyes. We are all beautiful!! I think it’s time we train our eyes to see beauty for what it is, not what media and people say it should be.

I know this can be a heavy topic but take a deep breathe and look in the mirror and say, “I love me! I embrace who I was created to be! I am beautiful! I am capable! I’m worthy! I’m loved by the creator of the universe!”
